“58 Victims” Altar Installation at the Palm Springs Art Museum, Palm Springs Ca. November 2017

On October 1, 2017, 58 mothers, fathers, children, sisters, brothers, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends were massacred while attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas Nevada. The loss for all who loved them is an incomprehensible tragedy. For the living, we will never know what the victims who died might have contributed for the benefit of all sentient beings on our planet had they survived. Those dreams were lost in that rain of machine guns firing on innocent people. People who just wanted to spend the day dancing and listening to music with their family and friends. _Elaine Sigwald

“58 Victims” Altar

Museum visitors who experienced this installation said it gave them a chance to honor and morn the victims. Others said it gave a face and a voice to the victims. Some said, “It could have been me. It could have been anyone of us.” Many tears were shed and many hugs were shared at the altar. _ Elaine Sigwald
