I was different in my private life, in this reality, I was channeling my own brand of Marilyn sexuality and loving it. I never allowed myself to explore this dichotomy in my personality, or examine how similar I really was to Marilyn in some ways and Norma Jeane in others. I was 23 and having too much fun. Now in my sixth decade on the planet I have a different perspective. In this series, I have used Norma Jean's words (she always disliked the name Marilyn Monroe), to further reveal the true person captured in my photographs. We lived in a small house that used to be the servants quarter for the big haunted deserted mansion next door. We had no running water in the winter and would take a sled down a steep hill to the stream to fill up our plastic containers with water. The stream was frozen all winter and we had to chop through the ice to get water. We heated our cabin with a wood stove it was cozy and warm. The day these photos were taken Chris had just come back home after being on the road gigging with his band. It was snowing like crazy and we had all the time in the world for each other, no distractions no phone, computers or TV just us. It was found in the Hohle Fel Cave in southern Germany. The sculpture is 35,000 years old. It depicts a female with exaggerated breasts, stomach, thighs, vulva and has no head. In lieu of a head there was a ring so the piece could be worn as a pendant. I found it facinating that a woman was chosen as the subject. It gives credence to the fact that the first societies were Matriarchies. Maybe it’s time for history to repeat itself. My process, I start by sitting in front of a computer screen staring. When the inertia lifts I pick up my mouse and start to paint freehand. At times I paint with my eyes closed in the automatic painting style of the Surrealists. Sometimes like the French artist Andre Masson 1896–1987 who used pen and paper, I let my mouse travel rapidly across my work table without conscious control of what I am creating on the screen creating, "Automatic Drawings". Other times my movements are very calculated and mathematical. Some of my paintings take over 100 hours to complete. It is said that his Spirit still lives in this canyon and one should be ever vigilant when hiking there for he might just try to steal your Spirit. Ms. Sigwald was curious about the new sculpture at the entrance to the Palm Springs Museum and decided to take a look. She was immediately drawn to the piece and became fascinated by all of the worlds she saw reflected on its surfaces. The loss for all who loved them is an incomprehensible tragedy. For the living, we will never know what the victims who died might have contributed for the benefit of all sentient beings on our planet had they survived.
